Beaumont, CA ––Glen View High School teacher Candy Romero watches her eleventh grade student, Sarai Martinez, scribble a math problem onto the surface of a brand new desk with a black marker. Instead of stopping her, Ms. Romero encourages her to draw a graph.
The desks feature a white-board surface, which encourages students, like Martinez, to fully immerse themselves into their workspace. It also makes the surfaces erasable. This small detail is just one of the many features unveiled to students at the opening of the Glen View High School expansion project on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Ruhnau Clarke Architects and construction manager Ledesma & Meyer were hired by the Beaumont Unified School District to lead the $8 million project, which included four classrooms totaling 5,000 square feet, staff and student restroom facilities, perimeter fencing, a shaded courtyard, ADA travel paths, landscaping, electrical upgrades, four digital displays, and 128 chairs and desks.
“With this expansion project, we were able to relocate our highly valued career technical education medical pathway to a much larger classroom for hands-on learning,” explained Glen View High School Principal Dr. Benisha Carr. Prior to the project, the program was limited to a confined room in the administrative office.
Funding for the project was made possible through the voter-approved 2008 Measure Z Bond, which also aided in the Beaumont High School expansion project, among others. The funding from the measure will be exhausted by the end of this year.
“As we close out this funding source, we want the public to see the results of their support for the 2008 bond measure,” explained Beaumont USD Facilities Director Ana Gonzalez. “The smiles on the kids' faces show how grateful they are to know the community put their education first and center.”
Glen View High School students, along with dignitaries and project leaders will convene on September 22, 2025, for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. The public may register for a guided tour of the project that will take place at 3:45 p.m.
